Business Intelligence Maturity Assessment

noventum consulting is conducting Business Intelligence Maturity Assessments based on a methodology that is utilising the Information Evolution Model to identify and measure an organisation’s current level of BI maturity. With this information, you can increase the value driven by Business Intelligence Investments and also achieve a competitive advantage.

 

The method of assessment consists of face-to-face meetings with Business Line Users, Reporting and Analytic units, the Information Technology Department and C-Level Executives. It is our recommendation to include as many participants as necessary to reflect the actual state of the overall organisation. Participants should be named according to their interactions with Reporting and Analytical Systems. The average duration of the surveys is 40 minutes. At the beginning of each survey, participants are informed about the study’s objective. 

 

The implementation of Business Intelligence Maturity Assessment is standardised within a noventum tool that includes a pool of questionnaires and assessment mechanisms and presents the result. Surveys of business versus IT differ slightly. Also, the order of the questions is intelligently arranged for capturing the unbiased opinions of participants. Each participant will be questioned regarding the current Business Intelligence Landscape, including Data Warehouse Technologies, Data Quality and Availability, User Skills and Corporate Reporting Culture. Each participant’s results are individually calculated. Then the sum of all participants’ points will be divided by the number of participants to achieve the overall ranking of your organisation.

 

The results will point to a level on this graph. However, at almost all organisations, the level is not a clear cut point. Rather, our experience shows that most organisations have strengths and weaknesses of more than one state. For example, even if an organisation’s maturity level is estimated to be 2, this does not necessarily mean that it has all properties of “consolidated”, most likely it will have a certain number of ad-hoc reporting activities, even perhaps some data mining implementations at the departmental level and at the same time Excel can be used as the main reporting tool, with an insufficient amount of standard reports available.
